With the exciting recent news about SharePoint 2013 – and Office 2013 – there is also a new preview for Office 365 – using the new SharePoint bits. I have a demo/preview tenant site – and exploring the various ‘apps’ that can be added from the SharePoint store.
Today (!) there was a release from Nintex – with a Platform Preview.
Here’s how to get started with it :
- Within your Office 365 SharePoint site, just click the “Add an App” link :
- Click on “SharePoint Store” on the left hand side.
- The big orange icon is for Nintex
- Simply click “Add It”
- You need to click “Trust It” also
- The feature is now “activated” and can be used within libraries – and/or site workflows
If you jump into a document library – you’ll see the Nintex Workflow icon :
The new designer is very slick – and includes many activities for building workflows.
There is also a section with activities from “Nintex Live” :
- Bing language detection
- Bing text to speech
- Bing translation
- Facebook wall post
- Google URL shortener
- Google weather
- StrikeIron IP lookup
- StrikeIron exchange rate and currency converter
- Twitter Tweet
- WordPress new blog post
- Yammer message
As well as Office 365 activities such as Check-In, Check-Out, Create Site, Delete item, etc.
I tried out the “post-to-FaceBook” activity – and had to simply ‘allow’ the Nintex app to post to FaceBook (via an email notification) :
…. and then it landed on my FaceBook wall :
With the designer and activities being hosted via Microsoft/Nintex/Azure, they’ll be able to update with new activities automatically – and will be available to all tenants/users.
This is a really (REALLY) cool new addition for Office 365 – bringing Workflow to the cloud – damn cool !
